Hi,
Has anyone dowloaded betfair to their mobile and gone oncourse
and 5 Mins before the start,L with bf and B at a higher price with a bookie?
With 15 or more bookies available, should secure a higher price.
This would apply at any major meeting, worldwide.
Liquidity should be ok on a Sat**day re betfair.
Regards,
r5

Shorty

I do this from home at the moment. I usually aim for a 10% return on my investment per day.

Lohnro

Do you find many betting opportunities R5?

Shorty

I had twelve in two hours today, one of which would have been a loss if the horse got up because the odds dropped at the last second. Fortunately for me, it finished last.

R5

Shorty,
Have you opened accounts with say 5 separate bookies or are you
using sportingbet?
Shopping on course with say 15 or more bookies, should offer some
risk free bets,or if the prices are vastly different, then profit whether the selection
wins or loses.
Has the liquidity been ok?
The liquidity in NSW,AUS,even on a Sat**day, can be low.

Lohnro,
Shorty is already doing this, not on course, but from home.
By going on course, shopping with 15 or more bookies, should offer some
interesting betting situations.
If the prices vary greatly, then win or lose,we profit.
My concern is the liquidity for Rosehill or Randwick, even on a Sat**day meeting.
If there is little difference, then will have to bet big,but liquidity may restrict this approach.
Shorty may be able to assist re liquidity.

Hey R5,

I am normally very busy with my normal betting activities through the day, but I had the chance to have a look at a few races on-line. I saw a few betting opportunities but did not seem to be able to secure the prices I needed? Maybe on course is the best way to go?

Did you or maybe Shorty have a bet this way today? I would like to hear what bets you may of had.

Cheers,

Shorty

I currently use sportsbet.com.au. There are several betting options you can take and you would obviously take the best one.

There are fixed odds (which you can usually tell are going to drop on the outright favourite as the race gets closer to the jump), Country Best (the best odds from the TAB and NSW markets), and Starting Price (which is the price that the venue bookie is offering which are the yellow odds on the betting screen).

I didn't have any bets today because I am waiting for my funds to clear so I can transfer my winnings from one account to the other.

I find it quite easy on the UK races too because the odds are often a lot different on the Home Tote to what they are on Betfair.

Because I am doing this from home I need to place my bets less than 30 seconds or so before the race. If you place them earlier, say two minutes, then you run the risk of the horse being over backed by punters and the price dropping rapidly.

This isn't risk free, but in my opinion, is freaking awesome. But it does take practice, you get to know when odds are going to drop or raise before the race jump.

Lohnro

Thanks Shorty, I may have to look into this way of betting!

Lohnro

Sorry, one more question to both of you:

Is it your preference to lay 1st then back the other, or back 1st then lay the other?

Shorty

Personally I back first to confirm my bet has been successful. Sometimes on Sportsbet the race will close when it hits the scheduled time of the race, even though it may not start for another 30 seconds.

These are the little things you will pick up when you start applying this way of betting. I started with small units for a while just to learn all the ins and outs.

R5

Lohnro,
This all started purely as an idea,so put it forward to see if anyone had attempted.
Shorty is on to this style of betting.
Shorty is doing it with sportingbet. They pay the best available dividend from the 3 totes.
So,doing it with sportingbet successfully, then working with 15 or so bookies should be interesting.
I rang betfair re download,my phone needs upgrading,as need internet, java,so to test
i will go on course and 5 mins before start ring betfair and evaluate the LAYS.
I will LAY first, this will secure the bet, then work the market with the bookies.
With a low LAY,from one runner close to the fav,it should be quite easy to secure a slightly
HIGHER price to BACK,remember there are 15 bookies competing for your business.
I might even ask if i can have 3/1,when i have already secured the LAY at 2/1.
Bear in mind, while talking to betfair,i will have the market right in my face.
I will need to be quick,LAY,then straight to the bookie and BACK,all in say 1 minute.
Should be very,very interesting.
Regards,

The main problem I see doing this, is that the bookmaker markets and totes seem to follow Betfair. So if you find a horse too short on Betfair and lay it, sure enough, the bookies and totes prices come in to match that price.

So it makes sense to me to maybe back the horse at the higher price, to try to secure the higher price, then lay with Betfair. Maybe team work would be the way to go, back and lay at the same time?

The other problem I have is that if you have secured a higher price than Betfair offer, you have actually secured an edge over the general betting punter................why would you then go and lay off the bet?

If Shorty has had success with this well there might be something too it!

Shorty

I started doing this because my luck with the horses is ridiculous. Even when I found a great value horse (even on the 2:1 favourite) I would find myself going on massive losing streaks. I decided that it would be more entertaining to arb (I've always had an interest in sports arbing, but don't like giving out my details to different online bookies).

Lohnro: I target the horses that have had overbacking on one of the markets. For example, a horse may be paying $3.5 on the NSW market and paying $5.5 on the TAB. I only place my bets within the last 30 seconds of the race so the price doesn't have time to jump down a hell of a lot.

Shorty

For some reason I can't edit my post.

I meant to write "under-backing" instead of over-backing.
